BRC Co-Chairs Announcement to BRC Concerning Bennett College Leadership Change

GREENSBORO, N.C. 6/21/2019 As you now know, today the Bennett College Board of Trustees announced a change in leadership. Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins has stepped down as President of the College, effective immediately. The BRC co-chairs were advised today of this change by the Board of Trustees’ Chair Gladys Robinson.

Trustee Robinson emphasized that the Board continues to look to the Bennett Re-Engineering Committee to help forge a strategy that well positions Bennett for the opportunities ahead. As such, and consistent with the BRC’s previously determined schedule, Yvonne and I delivered the BRC’s preliminary recommendations to the Board this afternoon.

Dr. Gwendolyn O’Neal, an alumna and fellow Bennett Re-Engineering Committee member has officially been named interim President, effective immediately. The Trustees have indicated that they expect to name a permanent President by the beginning of the academic year. We would like to thank Dr. O’Neal for her contributions to the BRC, and we accept her resignation as she assumes the role of interim President.

We thank the members of the BRC for the tremendous work that has been done to date, and we look forward to delivering a full report the Board on September 19th.

All the best,

Tom and Yvonne
